The resolution itself is not very hard to increase, I've done it in some few minutes for my 1.13c mod (my mod can be played in 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 768). The real challenge is to recode every parts of the UI, which gets broken with resolution changes:

Also resolution mods gets you banned way to easy nowdays :S, we had one working reso mod. But it's not supported anymore
