in case u dont consider a $50,000 lawsuit, that u are practically bound to lose, a "huge bill", good for you.. sadly, i was but 17 years old at the time, and im telling u, this was no fun whatsoever.

Im not saying that the groups of the scene necessarily condone the use of p2p-networks, and if u actually read through my post, u would probably notice, that i in no way contradicted ur thesis of the sceners running greater risks than ur socalled leechers.
Even so, u may take note, that there are still races going on between the groups, of who can release x movie/game first. If this race is supposed to be decided by who can release to the sceners themselves first, whereafter the releases are leaked, you might be right. If that is the case, this particular line of argumentation will be disregarded.

Sorry didn't notice the denmark thing, in america the Riaa sends out a bunch of ludacris letters with crazy fines (that no one ever has to pay), like "50 thousands dollars a song", it's just scare tactics though.

Good, now I cant get what the heck this is about.

First:(Not a piracy/legality debate)
Then: "It's about P2P downloading, I'm against it because I think it hurts media and the scene, but someone who is for it would say everyone has the right to listen to music for free or blah blah."
Then: "In the end, P2Pers take no risk, contribute nothing, and still get warez."

Is it to bash P2Pers?

I do agree... sceners take huge risks whether they are skilled or unskilled...

Just understand, they aren't gods... if they get caught, its their own fault, not the p2p'ers... they are ultimately responsible for leaks in their own scenes...

I am anti-P2P. That means I am opposed to bittorrent, kazaa, irc transfer, and any means of piracy.

However, I still do it and will continue to do it. I just don't want anyone else doing it, because then the products I steal will not return as much money to the producers, meaning I will be stealing crappier products.

They don't have control over what sites their stuff is spread too, but I guarantee that no one important or respectable would leak to p2p, only lame ass traders/currys.

if people from the scene don't want their shit released to the masses, they shouldn't be sharing their shit with random people.

They aren't trying to spread it to just anyone, but lamers leak it. If they finally did get fed up with p2p leaking and gave up piracy wouldn't go farther than MP3's ripped from CDs, because that's the only thing p2p can do.

Valuum, I'm not sure what you don't understand about both Tom's and my post, but what we are trying to point out is that sceners are responsible for who they allow in the scene... if it gets leaked by someone... courier or not... it's their own fault, being the ones who picked the leaker...

Also, do you honestly believe that p2p wouldn't exist without the scenes?

Its a little naive to think that... Ripping DVDs to files is a relatively simple process, and frequently one can get a fully operational program (minus the updates), with just a serial.

The quality wouldn't be the same, but p2p wouldn't die...

Yeah but they wouldn't be the same quality (dvdshrink sucks), there would be no standards, and the movie would come out hella old (unlike the scene who gets them early). I'd like to see the scene crack a game/app, cam a movie, sync audio, get direct audio, capture a tv show, dump a gba game, encode a good xvid etc

edit: the scene would only exist as MP3s, shitty DVDrips, and shitty xvid dvd rips.

Reading this thread baffled the hell out of me. Are you seriously saying its OK to pirate movies, music, and games and then blame p2p for hurting artists and causing you to get in trouble?

You are absolutely insane.

1. you will NEVER keep releases inside your scene for long. Media will always be distributed and shared. Trying to keep it locked away is a futile waste of energy.

2. YOU are the sole cause of any legal punishment inflicted upon you. Don't blame everyone else for distributing the work because they wouldn't have even had it without you. YOU guys ripped it and curried it, so stop whining about other people and take some goddamn responsibility.

P2P is the lowest rung in file distribution, and I am aware the sceners don't like it. And I don't really blame them, they don't need p2p and that's fine. But don't go spouting off about how horribly "wrong" it is because YOU guys are the real source of the problem. Trying to blame p2p is truly hypocritical.
