Should the government spoon feed the poor? Some people need help... but many just leech of the system and do not attempt to get out of poverty.

Should we let nature take it's course? I would love to see idiots die, we shouldn't be protecting these kinds of people...

There is various levels of freedom independence and attitudes towards civilization. You wouldn't take a peach from a apple tree but what if a peach tree grew apples.

You ostracize the homeless for being welfare cases draining the resources of society, yet fail to consider the welfare you've received throughout your entire life.

The fact is, humanity is interdependent in many ways. I'm not sure the government should enforce the redistribution of resources by force (which is, if you believe in private property rights, ultimately immoral), but I can see the benefit of a social safety net.

I believe the best course of welfare, if we have to have any at all, would be to supplement the incomes of those who don't make enough to support themselves and their families. This way, the unemployed would have an incentive to get a job, and even if they weren't being paid a decent wage from, say, mcdonalds, the govt would supplement the income so they don't quit the job because it's 'not worth it'. People would get jobs and would be working towards a better life, at least.

people who are on welfare aren't idiots

some of them are a little behind and truly do need help, while others like you said just abuse the system

im not sure how long you can be on welfare for but i think i heard its like 5 years? if so then that is probably why some people will abuse it.

it should only be in my opinion for no longer then 6 months. thats definately enough time to get a new job and on track. 1 year MAX.

It's easy to say extremist phrases like "I would love to see idiots die," as if there were a group of lazy people laughing all the way home from the welfare office. The reality of it is you will have single moms, their young children, disabled people and families which lost their sole source of income. The percentage of people on welfare who actively abuse it is fairly low.

I wonder about that. Animals only leave their weak to die because they couldn't possibly provide what they needed. It may be a sign of a races advancement that it is able to provide for its sick and poor.

Gotta do an oral thingy in school , about how i am pro capitalism and was planning on destroying socialism ways like welfare and such as my main argument ,but with exceptions let's say for example people that really need it. But even then anyone can "serve" and sell their labor in some way even if they do get lower wage government could compensate. My dad has muscular dystrophy and never stopped going to school and working because he never wanted to be one of those, that just sit in a corner and despair on how life is unfair.

your dad is a trooper...There are plenty of people who legitamately need welfare, but there are plenty unlike your father, who could probably work and make a means to live by, but make up bogus excuses to NOT work because they're a pile of shit. Regardless, saturn star is right

Well I think it's fair to say that certain "minorities" need some incentive to shape up, stop breeding so much, and stop leeching. Fact of the matter is that hispanics and blacks together pretty much sum up the welfare system.

This has to be one of the most idiotic posts I have ever seen. Natural selection has nothing to do with how well a person fits into civilization. Not to mention the fact that some people who live on welfare for some time go on to make something of themselves.

62% of bankruptcies are caused by medical bills. You are delusional if you think that there is no way you could ever become poor.

anyone who can't find a job in this economy should just die out on the streets! ya!

oh wait, shit, economy sucks atm :(

but honestly, I say that to stay on welfare you either need to have a serious medical condition checked out by a doctor monthly or annually, or at least try to get a job (like have employers contact the welfare agencies with failed job applications where the person at least TRIED to get a job)
