Here's the deal.

This is the place for structured and civil debate. It is not a resurrection of the Pit of Flames. Callouts and bash topics don't go here or anywhere.

There are no teams - as the format title suggests, open debates allow for open participation. Post away, you don't have to sign up. Users can suggest open debates by dropping its potential first post in the Suggestion Box and identifying it as an open debate request. If a moderator deems it suitable, they will split it into its own topic.

This should go without saying, but don't spam, troll or attack anyone personally. Participants will treat their opposition with respect. Ignore the rules and face moderation or even a ban depending on the severity and frequency of your offense(s).

Otherwise, have at it.

The closed debate format has been formally scrapped.

The suggestion box is no more, users can create open debates by themselves. Make sure they're relevant.

Please keep your text at the normal size. Putting stuff in size=1 and making people copy/paste just to read it is a waste of time for everybody, yourself included. If I see ineligible text instead of editing the size I'm just going to remove it from the post and/or i-mod the entire thing.

New Rule:
  • When responding to somebody's post, especially if it is lengthy, you must use quoteboxes. Simply using quotations (as opposed to quote boxes) makes your post difficult to sort out and equally as difficult to read.
  • Ad hominem attacks are strictly forbidden.

Wikipedia is not only a valid source of scientific information, but an extremely accurate one. Discounting entire posts on the basis that they "used wikipedia" will not be stood for.

If somebody wants to debate this, make a topic. Until then, this guideline should be respected. I'm very tired of ignorant posters disregarding long, informed, sourced posts on the basis of "using wikipedia".
