Alright guys. It has been a while and I haven't really came across anything special aside from Google Chrome.. I'm getting a new laptop and I'd like to get some cool stuff on it.

http://sagernotebook.com/index.php?page ... ame=NP8180
I'm sweating waiting for this thing, says it is on backorder til the 28th of Feb, I upgraded a couple things, but all in all that is pretty much it, I also got that TV thing.

What are some of the coolest programs or anything that are worth the download.

For Instance back in the day it was: Winamp, napster-->several others-->torrents, Firefox-->chrome.

What you guys got?

Foobar2000 for playing music.
uTorrent for torrents.
Pidgin for AIM/MSN/Xfire/ICQ/GTalk/Yahoo/whateverthefuck.
Steam for games.
Notepad++ for editing anything that is not a research paper or resume(CV).
ZScreen if ever you feel the need to upload screenshots more than once a day.

At least I can say I've been on the Utorrent train for years.

I am definitely going to have to look into Zscreen, I am glad you pointed it out, thanks. Sounds like Notepad++ is a real winner for me too.

I've been using Windows media player as of late, only because it has been on my computer

- VLC player
- 7zip
- Open Office
- Drop box

Yeah, I'll have to check these out.

I ordered a bomb ass Sager Laptop, gotta wait until next month for it.. Kinda sucks..

Definitely got to suggest:

F.lux
It saves my eyes when i'm up late.

foobar 2000
Best low profile music player.

Utorrent
Best lightweight torrent program.

I don't like installing anything that I don't need to, so I like SumatraPDF for viewing my ebooks on the pc then delete the file when I'm done with it.

I also like burnaware free for my burner as it also is small and lightweight with no frills.

Try them out see what you think.

Right! Excellent suggestion.

It's easily my favourite as well.

Fuck Adobe Acrobat. It has you jumping through hoops.

I don't read ebooks, maybe I should start. I've never been able to read out of books, but when I read off of a computer screen it is easier. I was wondering what a good burner was Burnaware sounds good.

I couldn't agree with you more about installing things I don't need, but when I go to BH I know I am in good hands. Pretty much all the cool stuff I ever found out about computers was here. My Sager comes bare bones, so I do need to get some stuff on it, this is the stuff I am interested in so far, if you feel you have a better suggestion shoot:

Google Chrome (I personally think it is the best)
Utorrent (recommended in this thread and I already use it)
Burnaware - for dvd/cd burning
foosbar 2000 - I use WMP, so I'm asuming it is a nice upgrade
Notepad++ I use windows crappy notepad constantly for xp
Zscreen - I already use a lot of screenshots and I will need way more, can't wait to try this

Possibly:
Pidgin (don't use AIM, but may need it in the future)

Things for me to look into:
- F.lux - does it help batteries, how does it help your eyes
- VLC player - Assuming it is a player, is it better than foosbar?
- 7zip - Assuming it is an unzipper?
- Open Office - No idea
- Drop box - No idea
- Steam (I think I've always heard of it, is that CS?)

F.lux filters your screen so it is less harsh on your eyes. Turning your blinding whites into a soft halogen. I spend time in my bed with my laptop on and the lights off so it really saves me there.

I also feel it allows me to go to sleep easier. Similar to the difference between being in a florescent lighting verses candle light.

- f.lux Won't help batteries. Technically it's a rather scientific way to strain your eyes less while on the computer. I'm not a fan because it ruins my Monitor Calibration.

- VLC is primarily a video player. I'd recommend it.

- 7Zip is the best unzipper in my opinion.

- Open Office is outdated, LibreOffice is basically it's spiritual successor that is still in active development.

- Drop box is a remote file storage system, drop files in your Dropbox folders and they live in the cloud, allowing you to access them from any computer or phone.

- Steam... is this a fucking joke? It's like the iTunes of Gaming.

Is it really that good? I've always been happy with D2, WoW, Wc3 and Call of Duty.

The funny thing is I still don't know what it is, and it doesn't sound that appealing to me so I haven't ever went to go look. So I really still have no idea what it is for sure. I don't even want to guess as to what it actually is either because I'm sure I'll sound stupid.
