Okay so I posted this a while ago but had a different question. I have a neighbor in my apartment building that is running wifi without a password. Currently when i log on, I can go under my Explorer and view Network and it shows they have "Media" hooked up to where it looks like someone attached either a camera or an external hdd (it brings up Windows Media Player when I double click it. When it comes up though it says I must have rights to view it. How would I get them? Also, they have a homegroup that i can join but wouldn't that flag them that someone joined there homegroup?

I mean there's not much stopping them from right now doing the same thing you did and finding your computer through the Network view on Windows anyway. You might as well just go for it because odds are, people who have unprotected wifi networks don't ever do that anyway.

True.. I didn't think of this but I doubt I can even join their homegroup because doesn't windows create a random password for you once you set one up? I'm just interested in looking at whats on that media and can't figure out why I can't view it. Also, there is a PC that come up saying "LINO-PC" and when I double click it, it says it's an incorrect path to it. What could I do to snoop around? I just don't want to join the homegroup and my MAC be on it and them be able to trace back to me or something

I'm not looking to wreak havoc on them but rather just mess around. Whenever I double click there computer under Networks, it just says something about incorrect path and says "//Lino-PC"

::EDIT:: Also, in Wireshark it says (when I attempt to double click the computer and it gives the above error) there is a port issue.

Wireshark has a port issue?

Try GF LanGuard. It will give you a variety of options to snoop around and tell you what's protected and what's not. It also gives a view of a variety of vulnerabilities that are on your target network.

That's my only advice, as I don't use Windows.

No, I have wireshark up and when I double click the "Lino-PC" (there PC on the network) it pops up with an internet explorer window and says "Incorrect Path" and in wireshark when is shows the packets, it says something about Port Unreachable showing from my IP on their LAN of 192.168.1.9 to the LINO-PC of 192.168.1.2

where do you live and what is your isp provider?

*if you live in the united states, odds are you are capped and you dont even know it. read your isps terms of use and excess data useage.

comcast - 250 gig / business accounts are unlimited
verizon "fios" / uncapped

ATT&T U verse was the best option at the time. They talked about Capping and Throttling it over a year ago and it never went through.

PS : That doesnt mean excessive use wouldnt call in suspicion and possible throttling due to specifically downloading movie illegally.

PPS : Exactly how much hard drive spcae do you have that you are downloading over a terabyte a month of movies/shows?
