Using this deal here: http://promotions.newegg.com/PS/028812/index.html?nm_mc=AFC-C8JUNCTION&cm_mmc=AFC-C8JUNCTION-_-EMC-020212-Latest-_-MECH-_-Seasonic-EB1B&PID=3891137&SID=rewrite&AID=10440897 for 15% off, free shipping on the platinum model

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151087 seasonic x750 80+ gold $164.29 shipped
fully modular, 87% average efficiency
vs

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151111 platiunum-860 80+ platinum $186.99 Shipped
fully modular, 92% average efficiency
so it costs about $20 more for a 110 watt and ~5% efficiency increase (and substantial e-peen natural male enhancement)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151110 x1050 is also a possibility, price would be the same as the platinum-860, but prolly won't need that much wattage so I'm mainly looking at the two above.

I'm hoping to use whichever PSU I get for a long time into the future so I'm thinking the platinum might be the best longterm investment.

Thoughts?

Side note: I missed a deal to get the x750 for $120 by two days so that's kinda a bummer, this 15% off deal ends Feb 8th.

Efficiency can be misleading. http://www.anandtech.com/show/2624/3

Short and sweet, they dont mean much if you arent running them to capacity, ie using most of the jiggawatts. 900 watt PSU running @ 2-300 watts is gonna be ~70-80% efficiency.

750 is usually more than fine unless you are running multiple GPUs or a dual GPU card (6990, 590, etc). Ive got 2x560 Tis running on my 750 with an overclocked i7 960, silent and not a single hiccup.

I thought you bought one forever ago when I sent you that amazon gift card you nub :P

"80 PLUS Gold Certified The 80 PLUS Gold certified power supply provides high power efficiency of at least 87% at any load between 20% and 100%, saving your money on your electrical bill, reducing heat in your computer's system and prolonging its life. "
It says between 20% and 100% load
I don't think they'd straight up lie but I don't know
Do you have any benchmarks for Seasonic psu's up your sleeve?

I intend to purchase one additional 6950 in the future for crossfire or a different crossfire setup, 750 should still be sufficient for dual 6950 setup with my other current hardware.
I didn't have all my money in one place then and yeah, it's taken me forever to do that :|
Had to get a new state ID so I could open a new czeching account and get shit sorted.

Platinum-860 also has 7 year warranty vs 5 year on x750

If you are definitely going to slightly/xfire then an 860 should be good. Just Google anadtech or tomshardware and seasonic. They are one of the top psu manufacturers.

That's why I'm looking at em mang
and like I said I hope to use this PSU for years, even carry it over to a completely new build if/when the time for that comes.

Good starting page there. I put it to 700-900 watt PSU. Then filtered through to the main manufacturers.
