And by labour I mean working.

I dropped out at 16, and I'm now working, I earn up to £1200 a month.
I hated education, I started bunking, never paying attention, and in the end I had a 16% attendence rate over my last 3 years at school.
I'm only 17 now, I plan on finding a good career while I'm still enjoying my childhood, I go to parties, get fucked, take drugs.

On the other hand, if education was for me, I'd be getting my A Levels right now, preparing to go to Uni, fretting over my UCAS points, which University I'm going to go to.
I'd come out of Uni at the minium age of 22, £20k+ (Most likely more) in debt, with a qualification that lots of people have nowadays, but it's still proof of intelligence, which is valuable.

In a few years of working I could be at a manager position of a good retail store, earning up to £100k+, or after Uni, I could try and get a well paid job, but they are already taken, by the people who did the same course as me.

I'd like to hear other points of view on this, I have only ever seen one side of it, and no-one has managed me to see it fairly from the other side. All I see are cons.

Education is very much required for the progression of humanity. However, we also need drop outs, construction workers etc. We even need the people stuck in dead-end jobs. Crap jobs need to be done.

just remember one thing.

education and school isn't the same thing.

I hated school, I also barely went, dropped out of one the cities best high schools at 16 as well.

I always thought school was a waste of time and I learned more from Google.

I was really glad I found my passion early come to think of it, I liked computer programming, and it wasn't something my parents wanted me to learn, it wasn't something my teachers did, it was something I wanted to do, and frankly that's all it fucking matters.

I think you should seek and find what you want/like to do, don't settle for something you can do, be well rounded.

I took the GED and got 3930 out of 4000 [ but it's nothing really, shit's really easy.]

went to some engineering college, didn't like it there because the computer science courses are too primitive. so I got out of there too after the first semester.

I now have a job working as software programmer for some small developing company 80k a year.

but hey, don't think you need to plan this out, I certainly didn't. work at day, party a night. after all we are still young.

I go to an art college because I knew jack shit about art in highschool and had no idea where to start. Two years in I can go to Borders and draw recognizable portraits of people in 5 minutes or less. I can draw a person/character (though I'm by no means perfect at this) from my mind or with little reference because I practice drawing figures so much. Obviously it's even better if I have good reference.

Though I still have a long way to go school wise, and I'm very much in debt, I don't regret it at all. On my own I'd never have gotten so far so fast. Education is a must, but that doesn't mean you have to force yourself to learn things you don't enjoy. I scraped by with C's in Math, Physics, and Chemistry(though I did better here) simply because I didn't like them. Meanwhile the subjects that interested me I aced or tried to ace. My goal was art school, math and etc aren't required for that so I just did enough (homework only, basically) to pass those and focus on others.

You don't need to eschew one in favor of the other, nor do you have to stop working or partying during either. I worked all through highschool, small jobs but still something. I hung out with friends and played all the games I wanted as well. Looking back on it I have no idea how I managed so much free time when now I worry about getting a single project done in 5 or so days(combined with other projects). Yet even so I plan on partying this weekend(Love Fest) and the past few weeks I've spent at least one night hanging out at my friends apartment.

It's all time and priority management. Balancing what you want with what you need. Neither has more value than the other so long as one or the other make you happy.

Drop out =/= unsuccessful.

I have an Uncle who never finished 11th grade and has a multi-million dollar contracting company.

There are exceptions on both sides.
In general, it is easier to make a good living with an education.

Landscaping contractors make much more than a college professor, but it's like comparing apples to oranges.

heres how i see it, the majority of jobs you are going to get without a degree, that you can realistically move up and and eventually turn into a good career, are in retail sales. So, if you can handle dealing with assholes yelling and bitching at you all day(80% of retail), or you can get a good job doing some sort of trade, school is necessary. Now don't get me wrong, alot of people are very successful without a degree, but its hard to do especially in today's economy with times being rough.

From my observation the people that drop out and become successful dont drop out cuz they are lazy they drop out because they already know what they want to do.

I know a person who was working summers and part time after school in construction. When he was 16 he convinced his dad to let him drop out if he promised to work full time. Few years later he put away enough money to start his own construction company and now he's a millionaire and doesn't work he just manages his employees.

Another example is someone we all know. Bill Gates who dropped out of University. When he dropped out he already knew what he wanted to do.

I'd say not to drop out unless your path is clear and you wont need a degree to get there.
