For my VisDev class I've decided to work on 4 environments based on the worlds of Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman's Death's Gate novels.

The first I'm doing is the world of air, Arianus. Home of the giant industrial complex/machine the Kicksey-Winsey (covering the bottom continents). The human and elven societies on the mid realm continents and the magi of the high realm, magic constructed and protected, city.

Here's the roughs. I still need to add a city and maybe rework it a bit to include a clearly identifiable object for better scale.

Color and value roughs. Really just a thought process for myself.

I just got done with the class I'm doing this for and think I'm pretty much going to keep the composition but now I need to do a ton of side work for this project.
By the way, for those interested, my teacher is Anthony Christov who has worked for just about every major movie studio and still works for Pixar.
He doesn't really teach so much as give us advice on the industry and he doesn't critique our work so much as tell us how well it would hold up in an industry setting.

Which is great because I've never had anything like it before and where what I posted would have been totally acceptable for my other classes it was not at all what he was looking for.

This is why I'm an artist though, to take on these problems and solve them.
