Hey guys, this is about me a current sophmore about to finish 2nd year university
all throughout hhigh school and so far college I have been undecided on my major. I really don't know which major to get, nor do I have a relative idea of what I like.
Diablo II really got me into computers. Using them, playing them, etc. Eventually I started to upgrade my computer which I self taunt and then I continued learning more on more. Fast forward a bit to senior year high school. I applied for Geek Squad, got accepted, and worked there for 3 years. I'm A++ certified (means nothing, I know) and just click with computers. I have ADHD so I'm the type to have 10 tabs open. (I know geek squad , computer hardware, or that type of shit =/= programming)
Anyways, that was random. Deciding on my major, I REALLY don't know what to do right...So for spring 2012 semester I took MIS-intro , macro economics, and accounting. Needless to say, MIS bored me (excel, word, microsoft access etc) , accounting I cannot stand! I see the importance in it, see the chance of getting a job after college is pretty much guaranteed, yada yada yada. But like fuck, I have an accounting final tommarrow and I'd rather start doing self-taunt C++ now which won't do me anything than study for this shit! (And that's with me on my prescribed adderall ... )
Anyways, before I get to my question, I want to point this out. About a year ago I tried to do some self taunt C++. Now that I think back on it, it kind of did excite me! I used these videos
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyVhn0FWWB4 serious...I look and I went all the way up to 15 ! I know that is still baby but right now im kinda surprised that I went so far.
I don't know why I stopped but ,
The point of this thread is that I need to pick a major and business doesn't seem to cut it. I kinda am interested in computer programming and I can see myself doing it. I'm the type of person that if I want to do something , and say hit a road block, I keep trying and trying...Type of guy that will hit page 15 on google after many refined key-word searches...
My one thing that I tell myself in my head is this : Why should I take computer science now, when you have all these people in 3rd world countries which these outsources corporations will probably outsource to anyways ???
Is this wrong, do I have it wrong, can you please correct me on this? (I was going to ask about the job market, but i'll just google it. Oh and about that, I google everything)
Should I do it, am I wasting my time/money? is computer science major worth it ? please help.
